Frequently Asked Questions
What is identity security, and why does my organisation need it?
Identity security means controlling who can access your systems and what they can do once they are in. That includes your employees, your customers, and the machines and third parties that connect to you. Most breaches now begin with a stolen or over-privileged login, so getting identity right has become central to how organisations defend themselves.
What is the difference between IGA, PAM, IAM and CIAM?
IAM is the broad category of managing identities and their access. IGA, or Identity Governance and Administration, controls who should have access to what and gives you the records auditors ask for. PAM, or Privileged Access Management, protects your most powerful admin accounts. CIAM, or Customer Identity and Access Management, handles large volumes of customer logins. NCG designs and implements all four so they work together.
How does NCG run an identity security project?
We assess first, then secure, then support. We begin by reviewing your current identity setup and where the risks and gaps are. We then design and put in place the right controls, whether that is IGA, PAM, CIAM, access management or eIDAS. After that we help you run and improve the programme over time. Every engagement is scoped to your environment rather than sold as a fixed package.
Do you work with our existing identity platform?
Yes. We are vendor neutral and work with the platforms you already run, including Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, SailPoint, Saviynt and CyberArk. Our focus is the architecture, governance and processes around those tools, so you get more value from what you have already bought instead of replacing it.
How does identity security support DORA and NIS2 compliance?
Both DORA and NIS2 require strict control over access, least privilege, and clear oversight of privileged and third-party accounts. A well-governed IGA and PAM programme produces the evidence regulators look for. That is why identity is often one of the first areas we address when we help a client meet these rules.
What is eIDAS, and do we need to think about it?
eIDAS is the EU framework for electronic identification and trust services, such as electronic signatures, seals and the new EU Digital Identity Wallet. If you operate in the EU and rely on digital onboarding, signatures or cross-border identity checks, it applies to you. NCG advises on where eIDAS affects your services and how to put compliant authentication and trust services in place.
