Frequently Asked Questions

Does DORA apply to my organisation, and what is the deadline?

DORA, the EU Digital Operational Resilience Act, has been in force since 17 January 2025. It applies to financial entities such as banks, insurers, investment firms, and payment and crypto providers, along with the ICT suppliers that serve them. If you are in scope, you are expected to have ICT risk management, incident reporting, resilience testing and supplier oversight already running. We help you close any remaining gaps quickly.

What is the difference between NIS2 and DORA?

They raise cyber resilience requirements for different groups. NIS2 is a broad EU directive that covers essential and important organisations across sectors such as energy, health, transport and digital infrastructure. DORA is a regulation written specifically for the financial sector and its ICT suppliers. Some organisations fall under both, so we help you map your obligations and avoid doing the same work twice.

What is ISO-as-a-Service (ISOaaS)?

ISOaaS is a way to reach and keep ISO certification without building a full in-house team. NCG acts as your ISO function. We build the management system, run your internal audits, prepare you for certification, and keep everything current as the standards and your business change. It suits organisations that need the certification but not the permanent headcount.

How long does ISO 27001 certification take?

For most organisations it takes somewhere between three and twelve months. How long depends on your size, the scope of the management system, and how mature your current controls are. The biggest factors are how much documentation and process you already have and how quickly you can gather evidence. We give you a realistic timeline after a short gap assessment.

What does the EU AI Act require, and how does ISO 42001 help?

The EU AI Act sets rules based on how risky an AI system is, with obligations arriving in stages from 2025 through 2026 and 2027 and the strictest duties falling on high-risk systems. ISO 42001 is the international standard for managing AI, and it gives you a structured, auditable way to govern it. NCG helps you list where you use AI, classify the risk, and build governance that satisfies both.

What is third-party risk management (TPRM), and do we need it?

TPRM is how you find and control the risk your vendors and suppliers bring, because a problem at a supplier quickly becomes your problem. Under DORA and NIS2 it is now a formal requirement rather than good practice. NCG helps you build the programme, including a supplier inventory, risk tiering, due diligence, contract controls and ongoing monitoring.

What is AI governance, and what does NCG's AI Governance service cover?

AI governance is how you set the rules, accountability and oversight for the way your organisation builds and uses AI, so it stays safe, lawful and trustworthy. Our AI Governance service helps you create an inventory of your AI systems, assess the risk of each one, write clear policies, and put the controls and review process in place. We align the work with ISO 42001 and the EU AI Act so you can show regulators and customers that your AI is under control.
